This policy explains what data we collect, how we handle your bank statement, and what rights you have. We've written it plainly — no legal fog.

1. Who we are

Zakat Nisab Calculator is a free, independent tool to help Muslims determine when their wealth crossed the nisab threshold and when Zakat becomes due. It is operated as a personal project and is not affiliated with any financial institution, religious authority, or commercial organisation.

2. Your bank statement

This is the most sensitive data you interact with on this site. Here is exactly what happens:

•Upload: Your file is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection directly to our server.

•Parsing: The file is read into temporary server memory solely to extract dates and balance figures. No transaction descriptions, account numbers, payee names, or other details are read or retained.

•Deletion: The file buffer is explicitly cleared from memory immediately after parsing completes — whether the parse succeeds or fails.

•No storage: The file is never written to disk, a database, a cache, or any third-party service.

•No logging: Raw balance figures are not written to server logs. Only anonymised error messages (e.g. "PDF parse failed") may appear in operational logs.

The parsed balance series (dates + balances only) is returned to your browser for display. It exists only in your browser's memory for the duration of your session and is discarded when you close or refresh the page.

3. Data we do not collect

We do not collect, store, or process:

•Your name, address, or any personally identifying information

•Your bank account number, sort code, or IBAN

•Individual transaction descriptions or merchant names

•Your IP address (beyond what a standard web server receives per request, which is not logged)

•Browser fingerprints, device identifiers, or behavioural analytics

•Advertising identifiers of any kind

4. Cookies and tracking

We do not use cookies for analytics, advertising, or tracking. We use Vercel Web Analytics to collect anonymised, aggregate traffic data (page views, country, referrer). No cookies are set, no individual users are tracked, and no personally identifiable information is collected..

Your browser may set functional cookies required by the Next.js framework for page routing. These contain no personal data and expire when your session ends.

5. Contact form

The Contact page composes a message using your device's default email client (via a mailto: link). No data is transmitted to our servers before you press Send in your email client. When you send a message, we receive only what your email client includes: the message text, message type, and optionally your email address if you provided one.

We use contact messages solely to respond to your query and do not share them with third parties.

6. Reference data

To compute the nisab threshold, we use historical silver and gold price data and currency exchange rates stored as static files on our server. This data is sourced from publicly available financial datasets and contains no personal information.

7. Hosting and infrastructure

This site is hosted on Vercel. Your requests are handled by their infrastructure, which may retain standard server access logs (IP address, timestamp, URL) for security and operational purposes under their own privacy policy. We do not have access to or control over those logs.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in how the tool operates. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the tool after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
