Uses the value of 595g of silver as the nisab threshold. This is a lower, more inclusive threshold — currently around $400–$600 USD. Recommended by most contemporary scholars as the safer, more cautious option to ensure the Zakat obligation is met.

Uses the value of 85g of gold as the nisab threshold. This is a higher threshold — currently around $6,000–$8,000 USD — meaning fewer people would qualify to pay Zakat. Preferred by some scholars as reflecting real wealth better in today's economy.

Zakat is due if wealth is at or above nisab at the start and end of the lunar year (hawl). Temporary dips during the year are ignored unless wealth hits zero. Followed by most Muslims in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, and Central Asia.

Wealth must remain continuously above nisab throughout the entire hawl. If it dips below at any point, the year resets and a new hawl begins only when wealth returns to nisab. This is a stricter interpretation of the hawl requirement.
